Director’s Introduction

Get winter wise and stay safe!

As the colder weather settles in;  it is important to be mindful of all the ways we can stay fit and healthy this winter.

I have rallied a few tips and tricks to keep the winter nasties at bay.

  1. Get vaccinated.

The seasonal flu vaccine provides 12 months of cover against the major strains of flu. Recently, it has been encouraged for pregnant women (in their third trimester) to be vaccinated, but here at the office we encourage EVERYONE! What is one minute of discomfort for 12 months of a leak free nose?

  1. Wash Hands.

It sounds simple but it is so important to wash up in Winter.  Experts recommend giving them a wash after touching someone else’s phone or keyboard at work.

  1. Keep exercising

It’s hard to get motivated when it’s cold and dark, but your body has to work overtime to get warm, so you can burn more kilojoules on that early morning walk or run. Find an exercise partner to keep you motivated and if it’s too cold outside, go to the gym or do laps at an indoor pool.

  1. Eat Well

For your body to be able to respond to infection, it needs to have enough protein, so enjoy lean meat, fish and poultry. This is the perfect excuse to break out the Winter stews.

  1. Save your skin.

MOISTURISE! Get a good quality moisturiser to protect your skin from drying out and being more susceptible to infection.

And most of all lots of hot chocolate! Have a great week and a safe weekend.

Pressure in your life. . .

Hi team,

This month I would like to discuss dealing with rising pressures in your life.

We understand and appreciate all the work each support professional contributes to our team; and how working in our industry is a test in patience, skill and multi-tasking.

Just Better Care endeavour to support you at all times and in order to achieve this we require your complete and honest feedback.  We want you to achieve all your goals both personal and work related.

We have recently sent out a confidential survey to assess the level of staff satisfaction. If you have not already done so please complete this short online survey.

All answers are anonymous so be as honest as possible. If you have something you wanted to relay personally please do not hesitate to contact HR at our Alexandria office on 9669 1965.

We want all our staff members to live well-balanced, enjoyable lives. Which includes enjoying your position in the JBC family.

Therefore, this month I implore each and every staff member to take time to ensure healthy living. Eat right (we have an excellent recipe in this issue), be active and take time for yourself.

Two-Way Street

As the landscape of our industry will change, so will we .

We will have to adjust to the new ways in which the funding model will be implemented .There are both Consumer Directed Care ( CDC ) for aged care and National Disability Insurance Scheme ( NDIS ) being piloted at the moment .

We will all have to change both our mindsets as well as our ways of delivering service .The new model is enablement, which will expect us to not only provide care ,but to help encourage our clients to do as much for themselves as possible. We will be offering training re this model, which I expect you all to attend.

We want to be the Best organisation that offers the best, most professional, most responsive and highly trained team to deliver a quality service that is unmatched in the industry .

If you would like to be part of our dynamic team, Please embrace the changes and Training  that will be implemented over the next 2 years and help us to build an organization that as is respected and trusted by ourselves as well as our customers.

Every service that you attend has its challenges. It is often through these challenges that we forget that the customer is the customer and needs to be treated with both DIGNITY and RESPECT.

Please contact your coordinators, Marina (H/R) or myself should these challenges be too difficult for you to manage .We are here to support you as a HIGHLY VALUED member of our team .

Please engage with your KEY COORDINATORS and embrace what we have to offer.

I look forward to working together with you all.

Thank you all for your support.

Phillip

The year to come

As we bid farewell to 2014 and welcome 2015, we hope this New Year brings joy, happiness and lots of satisfaction in all that we do together, to support our customers.

January is often referred to as a time for new beginnings, a time for challenging ourselves and renewing commitments in our Worlds of work and leisure.

We often also make new Years’ resolutions and set goals. Nut setting goals is the easy part – sticking to them takes planning and determination!

At Just Better Care we have set goals for the year. A major goal is to support you all as we transition to the ENABLEMENT service delivery approach and give you all the opportunity to UP SKILL. We’ve written the plan down and will be revisiting it to review progress, month by month.

We are offering ACREDITTED Certificate training that will give you the ACREDITTED MINIMUM LEVEL of competency to be compliant to work in the industry and the opportunity to earn more income. We have researched and tailored these personal courses to give you the best outcome.

I hope you will join us in achieving these training and certification goals, and feel the satisfaction that comes from knowing that you have gone beyond carrying out “tasks”- to bringing some joy into the lives of the people we care. Your warm smile and happy attitude can often be all it takes to brighten another persons day.

With Best Wishes,

Phillip

Message from Phillip

Hi everybody,

Phillip Behr_Director's Intro_EmailThe ‘silly season’ has arrived and Christmas is not far away. No doubt you are all under pressure with family and social commitments as well as working for JBC in the Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, St George or Sutherland regions.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for the commitment and effort you put into your work – and for the personal commitment you all make as JBC Care Professionals, to treat our clients with kindness and respect.

In 2014 we upgraded our JBC Intranet to better serve your work-related needs. We also had plenty of socials and training and plan to continue with more opportunities for everybody to come together at our events in 2015. I look forward to seeing you all in our offices on a regular basis.

Regardless of your faith, please enjoy the best that this time of year in Australia offers – great weather, food, socialising and travel and don’t forget to spread your joy and hope to our clients.

Have a great holiday period.

Phillip
